  Martial Arts Styles

When an individual decides to learn how to defend themselves, want to learn self defense, or become a better individual, one thing springs to mind - the martial arts. Martial arts are very popular these days,(with help from the movie industry ) being practiced and taught all over the world .

The martial arts originated in china and have been practiced for many centuries, although they really became popular around the time of Bruce Lee. Bruce was the creator of the style Jeet Kune Do, which is all about extremely fast strikes with amazingly accurate counter defenses. When people began to see just how fast Bruce Lee could move, they were motivated to check out martial arts and see just how it could benefit there welfare.

Martial arts constitute many specific styles from various countries. The styles depend on where and what you study. A lot of cultures and nations provide martial arts that they developed, formulated, and perfected. Brazil has Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Japan offers Karate, Thailand created Muay Thai, France has the great kicks of Savage, and last but not least China has Chaplin Dung fu. Keep in mind though each style will vary in techniques, methods and what it has to offer you.

Whilst a lot of people entertain martial arts as being merely just for self defense purposes, this most definitely not always the case. Martial arts are practiced in tournaments and competitions and can also include sparring, take down and floor moves, and even brick and block breaking presentations. All over the globe, there are contests and chances for Martial art fighters to demonstrate themselves and prove their knowledge.

At the most basic level all the martial arts styles will teach you how to protect yourself and most importantly help you develop self-discipline. Once you begin to study a martial art, you will quickly start to acquire a much better peaceful state of mind. No matter what style of martial art you decide study, the master will drill self control into your mind.

If you lack patience or have a ill temper or just want to learn self control, martial arts can be very beneficial and effective . Not only will you learn self-discipline, you will also learn how to defend yourself in the most drastic of situations. Self-command and self-control is very crucial, as martial arts can be very deadly if they are instructed to the wrong person - with incorrect intentions.

Across the last decade, there have been many mainstream competitions that display martial arts, such as Extreme Fighting, King of the cage, and the most popular of all, the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). The UFC has come a long way over the years, triggering interest from everywhere in the world. It matches stylists from all over the world collectively, to test their skills and see who is the more effective fighter.

With the UFC, a lot of people have acquired the wrong idea about martial arts. A martial art is great to learn, although if it works in the UFC, it does not always mean that it will protect you out on the streets. Karate for instance, teaching blocking and striking, with little to no emphasis on grappling
techniques. If you get in close, Karate will not help you in a street fight. With some distance however, Karate can be very devastating.

No matter how you consider it, martial arts can be rewarding to learn if you git into it for the right reasons. Each style will vary in technique and what it has to offer you, which is why you should choose the best style for your needs and what you wish to accomplish. Martial arts can teach you a lot about self defense and yourself - all you have to do is give it a go.
